NYS 18 Hour CCW Class

The New York State 18‑Hour Concealed Carry Firearm Safety Training Course is the mandatory certification required for individuals applying for a NYS Concealed Carry Pistol Permit. This comprehensive program combines classroom instruction with live‑fire range training to ensure students develop the knowledge, judgment, and practical skills necessary to responsibly carry a concealed handgun in New York.

The curriculum includes 16 hours of classroom instruction covering firearm safety, safe handling and storage, situational awareness, conflict avoidance, de‑escalation principles, and the development of a defensive mindset. Students also receive detailed instruction on New York State and federal use‑of‑force laws, prohibited conduct, sensitive locations, and the legal responsibilities associated with carrying a concealed firearm in public.

In addition to the classroom portion, students complete 2 hours of live‑fire range training, including supervised drills, safe handling exercises, and a required live‑fire qualification. Students must pass both a written examination and a live‑fire assessment to successfully complete the course.
