This is an 8 hour course that must be completed within 12 calendar months from completion of the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards, and annually thereafter. The course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct.
1. Introduction & Course Requirements
Overview of annual training requirements, course objectives, and professional expectations.
2. Role of the Security Guard
Updated guidance on guard functions, responsibilities, and the importance of proactive prevention.
3. Legal Powers and Limitations
Review of current laws, authority boundaries, and liability considerations for security personnel.
4. Emergency Situations
Procedures for identifying, responding to, and reporting emergencies, including fire, medical, and hazardous conditions.
5. Communications and Public Relations
Professional communication techniques, radio procedures, conflict management, and maintaining a positive public image.
6. Access Control
Best practices for monitoring entry points, verifying identification, issuing passes, and preventing unauthorized access.
7. Ethics and Conduct
Standards of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, impartiality, and appropriate on‑duty behavior.
8. Course Review & Completion Requirements
Summary of key concepts and instructions for meeting all completion standards.
