Are You Ready to Become an Unarmed Security Guard?

Yes. An unarmed security guard license is only good for 2 years. Unarmed guards must complete two (2) annual 8hr in-service classes within their registration period before they expire. 

No. Unless you are a peace officer, unarmed security guards are prohibited from carrying or using these items while working the unarmed security roll. 

It depends on the employer, your experience, and the site you are assigned to. Unarmed guards typically make between $17.00 and $21.00 per hour. 

You need to gain experience as an unarmed guard first or employers are less likely to hire you. To become an armed guard, you must have your NYS pistol permit first. You then must take the 47 hour course, then submit to NYS for the upgrade.
